Best Deals Vacuum Review – Hoover U5269-900 EmPower Bagless Upright Vacuum
In our search for the best vacuums under $100, Hoover continued to impress us. Hoover has been around for as long as there have been vacuum cleaners, and the reason is obvious. They simply make good machines, and their U5269-900 EmPower is certainly no exception.
The unit arrived in a nondescript box that did not have the usual laundry list of specs and features listed. Therefore, I was not sure if Hoover was trying to hide something or not. However, I was determined to figure out which.
Upon opening the box, I was surprised by how light the unit was (this will make those trips up and down the stairs much easier). Though not heavy at all, it seemed surprisingly well made for a unit of its weight and price range. The carry handle is also very well placed, and makes hauling the unit around much less of a chore.
Once unboxed and assembled, I observed that the unit had been well designed, in terms of attachment placement and build quality. The vacuum reviews of other units similarly priced showed that this not the case with all vacuums reviewed in our search. The cord was long enough to provide coverage in most large rooms. In fact when used in apartments and smaller homes, unplugging the vacuum may not be necessary.
After I had finished visually inspecting the unit, it was time to put it through the real tests. Sucking up dirt and pet hair! This is where vacuums either shine or fade away, and this machine did its part to live up to its proud Hoover heritage. Though there are certainly more powerful units available, no other vacuum that we have reviewed in this price range even comes close to the U5269-900, in terms of raw suction power.
In fact, the unit is so powerful, that the spinning brush ALMOST seems to have the effect of making the unit a self-propelled unit. Although this unit does not have the self-propelled feature, some users will think it does. It cut through our everyday dirt and pet hair tests with minimal effort, and left the carpets very clean. It was also better at cleaning in corners and along walls than any other vacuum reviewed in our search.
When tested in our filtration monitoring room, the unit performed in line with standards set for HEPA based filters, and performed as intended. Therefore, it is effective at trapping most allergens and air impurities.
As good as this vacuum cleaner is though, there are a couple of things that could have been better. For one, clean up of the canister is often very messy and cumbersome. If the canister is shaken too much, it causes the infamous dust cloud. In addition, the âHush Modeâ of the unit is not as effective in noise suppression, as other vacuums reviewed in our search.
Obviously, this is because the unit is so much more powerful than any other vacuum in our test group. Nevertheless, the Hoover U5269-900 was the clear winner in our search for the best vacuum in the sub $100 price range.

How to choose a best vacuum cleaner
Personal Cleaning Style
With the choice between an upright or canister model, you have two very different types of vacuum cleaners that can generally tackle the same jobs. An upright cleaner is easy to pull in and out of the closet and requires almost no set up. Pushing the unit in front of you makes it easy to maneuver.
A canister model requires a bit more set up, but tends to be less cumbersome and more versatile than most upright models. Allowing the body of the unit to trail behind you, you can use the attachments to clean over, under and above with ease.
What Needs Cleaning the Most
If your home is carpeted, an upright vacuum can be your best choice for getting in between carpet fibers. A vacuum cleaner with adequate airflow and a revolving brush roll is your best bet for removing dirt and debris, especially from deep carpeting. The model you choose should have a carpet adjustment dial to accommodate the brush to fiber depth. Some upright models come with an onboard hose and attachments, which make vacuuming tasks easier.
If you have wooden, vinyl or ceramic floors, select a brush attachment that comes with soft bristles and a crevice tool to get into crevices for thorough cleaning. The vacuum cleaner should incorporate a concentrated airflow to adequately pick up dirt and grit.
If you have stairs, a hand-held vacuum cleaner is ideal as it is lightweight and comes with a motor-driven revolving brush system that makes cleaning a breeze.
For quick touchups in between larger cleaning days, a non-electric power sweeper or an electric broom is ideal as they are both lightweight, easily portable, and require no set up time.
If you have kids, animals, or are prone to spills and stains, investing in a steam or a wet/dry vacuum is a smart move. A steam vacuum is ideal for cleaning stains while a wet/dry vacuum will clean up water and debris. Be sure to check that the model has a good filter system, as wet/dry models generally do not come with as advanced filtration systems as conventional units.
For Those with Allergies
If you are allergy-prone, it is best to choose a vacuum cleaner that comes with a HEPA filter. With this type of filter the highest percentage of pollen, mites and other allergens will be removed during the cleaning process. Though you may pay a bit more, the effect on your health will be well worth the investment.
Price
Buying a cheaper model vacuum does not necessarily mean you will get the most value for your money. Read the warranties carefully as you shop and note the number of amps as well as the strength of the motor, one having nothing to do with the other. If you can, choose a metal vacuum cleaner over a plastic one as they last longer. On the other hand, if you are buying a hand-held model, an electric broom, or a non-electric sweeper, a durable plastic model is fine as well as low cost.
Features and Options
Many vacuum cleaners now come without bags, using wind tunnel technology instead. These units often allow for suction power adjustment and come with nozzles that are easy to place under and behind furniture and other objects.
Look for a vacuum cleaner that has ample suction power, an efficient dust-trap system, easy navigation, and stabile handle control. Additionally the cord should be long enough to allow you to gain sufficient distance from the power source and should automatically rewind into the unit for easy storage.
When shopping for attachments, think about what you need the most. The following are options that may make your cleaning tasks easier:
• A good size brush for cleaning large expanses
• A brush for cleaning bare floors
• A telescoping wand for reaching up to high areas
• Nozzles that allow you to get into tight spaces
• A power nozzle
• A bag fullness indicator
• An air freshener system

It is a fact of nature that the floors in our home gather dirt over time, whether it is mud tracked in from outside or simply dust particles falling to the ground and getting caught in our carpets. The trouble with dirty floors is that not only do they look unpleasant but they can start to smell unpleasant too, this is why we have vacuum cleaners.
Vacuum cleaners have been around for decades and in the past ten years alone they have evolved into more technological and convenient forms that suit any home. With a wide range of famous brand such as Dyson, Electrolux and Hoover it can be tough to know which brand let alone which model to go for.
Many people have a preference and there are a wide range of styles to choose from, some people may choose their vacuum cleaner by the price tag, some will go for the compact sized model while others may opt for one with a large capacity for dirt. You may not be familiar with all the types of vacuum cleaner available so it’s best to find out using the following list.
Upright Vacuum cleaners
These have become the most popular type of vacuum cleaner available. They have higher suction power and are also very manoeuvrable. Larger models can be tough to turn and can be heavy to move, this is why some models will have a wand attachment to allow you to get into tight corners.
Canister Vacuum cleaners
Canister vacuum cleaners tend to be smaller and are ideal for small flats or houses with not much storage space for a bulkier vacuum cleaner. It also has a long hose so that you will not need to move the vacuum around as much. The only problem with canister vacuum cleaners is that the hose can get blocked and tough to unblock.
Cordless vacuum cleaners
This variety of vacuum cleaners has capitalised on the main annoyance with vacuum cleaners that they can get tangled up or have a cable that is too short. Cordless vacuum cleaners tend to be smaller and less powerful but are convenient for tasks which may be tough to do with a corded vacuum such as cleaning the inside of a car. The only problem is that the batteries will eventually wear out and need replacing.
Robot Vacuum cleaners
The latest addition to the vacuum cleaner world is robotic vacuum cleaners. These little gadgets take all the effort out of vacuuming by doing it by themselves. The first time you run one of these it goes around a room plotting the walls and obstacles so that next time it knows where it can and can’t go. From then on the vacuum can be set to clean up when you want it to without having to worry about it yourself.

When you move to the hard floors you turn the roller off and suck the hair up without spreading dust and allergens.
One of the other features that is a great asset when fighting pet allergies is the “Power Paw Power Brush”. The Power Paw is a smaller brush that attaches to the hose and can get in hard to reach places and also on furniture. It’s powered by the sucking air and spins a brush that works to lift the animal hair off of your furniture. This is especially important if you have suede or a fabric that doesn’t like to let go of the hair once it hits the couch fabric.
In addition to carpet, hard floors and furniture, another place you’ll find pet allergens like pet hair and pet dander is on your hard surfaces like counter tops, coffee tables, windows and fan blades. This Eureka Boss vacuum has a built in and self cleaning duster. After you do your dusting, you place the Boss 4D duster back into it’s side canister and the 4D vacuum sucks the dust off of the duster and straight into the easy to empty canister.
If you’re looking for an easy way to keep your pets in the house while keeping your allergies at bay, the Eureka Boss 4D is the answer you’ve been hoping for!
Choosing the Best Vacuum for You
Knowing how you will use your vacuum cleaner and what it will be needed for can help you make the best buying decision. This sounds very simple ? it is used to clean! Whether there are children or pets, what kind of flooring is used, how much money a person can spend, whether upholstery and draperies need to be cleaned, how many people are in the house, and other factors can all influence what kind of vacuum is purchased. There are many different types of cleaning machines, and there are different brands and other issues that have to be considered. A person might end up purchasing something that he or she doesn?t really like without taking the time to consider all of the issues. This can quickly become a waste of money, time, and effort, and might even sour someone on a particular vacuum brand.
Something like this would be an unfortunate scenario, because there are a lot of quality vacuum brands out there, provided a person takes enough time to decide on a budget, as well as needs and wants. This is often done by researching through the Internet, because it is much easier to find out information this way than it is to go around from store to store, expending a lot of time, energy, and gasoline, in the hopes that a person will remember everything that was learned about each and every brand of vacuum cleaner. No person is going to remember all of that, and this could lead to forgetfulness that would result in an unhappy and inappropriate choice for the cleaning needs that a person actually has. In addition, after too much driving and studying, all of the vacuum cleaners start to look the same and a person has trouble distinguishing one from another. This kind of problem can keep a person from any chance at getting what he or she really wants.
When choosing, look for a vacuum that meets as many of your needs as possible and still falls into your price range. Upright vacuums are what a person will want if they have wall to wall carpet in their home. If you have hardwood floors, tile, and area rugs, you will want to look for a canister style cleaner machine. Whether the cleaner will be used on draperies and upholstery is also an important consideration. Upright models should not be used in this way, because they can have too much suction and damage delicate fabrics. When choosing a cleaning machine, whether there are pets or children in the household is also something to look at. Large and frequent messes and a lot of pet hair often require a stronger and more durable (and often, therefore, more expensive) vacuum cleaner than a home that has only adults. Regardless of what kind of home situation a person has, however, a cleaning machine can be found that will give what is needed at a price that a person can be happy with, simply by spending some time researching.

Finding the Best Vacuum Cleaner For You
If you have wall to wall carpet in your home it’s no secret that you need to vacuum it. Depending on how much traffic you have through your house, you might have to vacuum it very often. If you have kids or pets, vacuuming can quickly become a chore because you have to keep up with the dirt and the hair that they leave behind. The best way to make that task less of a chore is to make sure that you’re using the best vacuum cleaner for you. No matter how much good publicity a vacuum cleaner has received, that doesn’t mean that it’s the right one for you or your home. Take your time, do your research, and make sure that you’re getting what you want from the vacuum cleaner that you buy. There are a lot of expensive brands out there, too, but they don’t work any better than the lower priced brands in the opinions of most people. That is a determination that only you can make based on your individual cleaning needs.
If you have tile or hardwood, don’t think that you’ve gotten away with something. You likely have area rugs, upholstery, and draperies which also need to be vacuumed. A big, upright vacuum cleaner might not be the best thing for you, though, and you can consider a canister vacuum. These don’t have as strong of a suction and because of that they are better designed to address more delicate fabrics – such as fine upholstery or expensive draperies. An upright cleaning machine would pull too hard on these fabrics, damaging them or pulling them all the way into the machine. They could be ruined very quickly and the vacuum could end up ruined as well. Avoiding this kind of problem is not that difficult as long as you are sure that you’re getting the right machine for your needs. Once you’ve determined whether you need a canister model or an upright one the next thing is to look at the features that you can get and see which ones would be better for you.
You might not need anything fancy or there might be a particular brand that you would prefer to use. Then you can shop around for price and any other questions or concerns you might have. With the gas prices being what they are today, driving from store to store to make a comparison can get very costly. A better choice would be to use the Internet. There are a lot of great sites where you can get reviews, both from paid reviewers and from ‘real’ people just like you who have used a particular vacuum and want to comment on it. By finding this kind of information and by checking out the Websites for the vacuum cleaner companies you’re considering, you’re a lot more likely to get everything you need from the vacuum cleaner you decide to purchase. You’ll have spent your money wisely and your home will be easier and more enjoyable to vacuum, making cleaning less of a chore.
Vax rated Best Value Vacuum Cleaner by Customers at Reevoo.com
Reevoo.com is one of the largest sites that collects customer reviews of electrical products and appliances for the kitchen, laundry, living room and ‘on-the-move’. Its awards are based on feedback from half a million shoppers who have bought and used the products they are rating. This makes them an invaluable source of information for shoppers, as they are totally independent and entirely based on the reviewers’ own experiences with the product.
The fact is that shoppers are more inclined to trust the opinion of other shoppers, even over the opinion of ‘professional reviewers’. Research by Marketing Sherpa in July 2007 found that 86.9% of respondents said they would trust a friend’s recommendation over a review by a critic, while 83.8% said they would trust user reviews over a critic.
Of all the vacuum cleaners rated by customers on the Reevoo site up to 1st April 2009, the Vax Swift Ultra bagless upright was voted top ‘Value for Money’. So what made it so popular?
Many of the Reevoo reviewers liked that it is lightweight, making it easy to push across the carpet and to carry upstairs. Several comments agree that it is powerful with good suction so it picks up pet hair easily. Other comments point out that it has good tools and is easy to assemble and use. With all these features at such a bargain price, the Swift Ultra really is fantastic value for money!
Since January 2009, Swift has been superseded by the Power range, which offer the same excellent value for money and even better cleaning performance. These vacuum cleaners have high air watts, large capacity dirt bins and HEPA filtration for allergy sufferers. In the range there are ‘Pet’ models, which have anti-bacterial filters and a TurboTool for picking up pet hairs, and a ‘Pets & Stairs’ model that has an extra long stretch hose.
